Monument for so called Armenian genocide to be erected in Geneva

Cantonal government of Geneva initiated a competition for erecting a monument on so called Armenian genocide. The competition committee, which promises the winner CHF 100,000 invited 6 successful artist besides Armenian descent artists to the competition.
The announcement that is made by the government suggests erection of the monument at the center of Geneva, on Square Chantepoulet, Le Square Pradier and L’esplanade Théodore-de-Béze.
On the other hand, Armenian organizations in Switzerland anounced that they will contribute CHF 400,000 for the construction of the monument.
Cantonal government of Geneva in Switzerland recognized so called Armenian genocide on June 25, 1998. The decision was not announced to public due to the reaction of Turkey and Turkish lobby. Afterwards the government that came into power in 2001 started with approval and announcement of the resolution that recognizes so called Armenian genocide.
