Nakhichevan's Blockade Turned 20

E-mail Print PDF
The blockade of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic turned 20 yesterday.

The Armenian army started attacks against Nakhchivan in eight hours before the deployment of Soviet troops in Baku on the night of January 20. The positions in Sadarak and Kerki were kept in fierce fights and for this reason the air communication over Nakhchivan became impossible. Armenia has cut water and gas supply to Nakhchivan from its territory.

Thus, the connection between the Autonomous Republic and Azerbaijan has been cut.

Only the railroad is left and it was also subjected to fire by Armenia. The railway communication was also cut off in some period. Thus, this blockade has continued for already 20 years, from May 6 up to now.
