Well-known russian historian, president of the Russian reseachers society Gennadiy Bordyugov believes, that both armenian and turkish elite can “explain” their peoples the necesserity of normalization of bilateral relations.
“All the time, in every society, the first talks are made by political and spiritual elites, because they better feel the problem, and they can see what happens in the future. So, if the first step from either side is made, without being based on political thoughts, or strengthening some regime, and if this is a well thought step, then understanding can be found,” explained the historian, Novosti Armenia reported.
According to him, this task by itself is hard. The expert believes, that mass consciousness changes very slowly, and it all depends on the arguments that the elite will present to their people.
“Now, not all will accept this, there will be resistance, but thats exactly why this should be very carefully thought of, and planned, and prepare reasonable explanation for all the taken steps, and why the peoples should try to approach each other,” Bordyugov said.
