Turkey may get a status of an observer in the mediation mission of the OSCE Minsk Group, Turkic expert Artak Shakaryan told a news conference today.
Armenia Today reported that he said Turkey takes active steps to get a definite role in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict. According to him, if we look through the articles of the recent years, the word “Turkey” was mentioned in 80% cases in terms of the Karabakh conflict.

“Though de-jure Turkey does not play a role in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, by drawing a conclusion from the constant mentioning of Turkey in the discussion of this issue, it can be said for sure that Turkey is gradually being involved into the process of the Karabakh conflict settlement”, Shakaryan said.

Though, according to the Turkic expert, it is highly unlikely that Turkey may become a Minsk Group co-chair,  but its appearance in a different format is possible. “Turkey may get a status of an observer within the mediation mission of the OSCE Minsk Group. This will help Turkey attend the sessions of the co-chairs and express its opinion about any aspect of the Karabakh conflict settlement”, said Shakaryan adding that in case Turkey gets this role, it will not have a right to take part in the final solution of the Minsk Group/

He also said there is another opportunity for Turkey to integrate with the solution of the Karabakh conflict. “Turkey can also appear in the format of the Caucasus platform, which may discuss the alternative way of the Karabakh conflict settlement”.

The Turkic scientist also said Armenia may agree with the fact of Turkey’s integration with the mediation mission of the OSCE Minsk Group, if the Armenian-Turkish protocols will be ratified without any prerequisites and be more positive for the Armenian side.
