Cavusoglu: I will be objective on Nagorno-Karabakh issue

E-mail Print PDF
President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlut Cavusoglu said that he will keep his objectivity in the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh as for any other issue.
Making a visit to Yerevan to meet representatives from Armenian Parliament and high level Armenian officials, Cavusoglu held a press conference to reply the questions of journalists after he completed his contacts in Yerevan. Asked how he could be objective over the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh while he represents Turkish delegation in PACE and when he for several times condemned the ongoing Armenian occupation in Azerbaijani lands, Cavusoglu said, "I do not want to comment on my statements which i made during my chairmanship of Turkish delegation in PACE. As the President of PACE, all the 47 countries are at the same distance to me and they all should have the same rights."
Asked why he rejected to visit so called Armenian genocide memorial, Cavusoglu said, "There is no article in the code of PACE that obligates PACE President to visit any point in any country. Some of the former Presidents of PACE did not visit Tsitsernakaberd too. That is my personal decision. I respect to your opinion so you should repsect mine."
Armenian opposition condemned PACE President Cavusoglu's rejection to visit so called Armenian genocide memorial. Oppositional Heritage Party condemned the attitude of PACE President and stated that Cavusoglu makes use of PACE Presidency towards the interests of Turkey and Azerbaijan.
