Stating that Armenian gangs committed massacres against Turkish people in Eastern Anatolia after the withdrawal of Russians in 1917, Tasyurek said that Turkish troops under the command of Eastern Front Commander Kazim Karabekir Pasha on March 12, 1918 liberated Erzurum.
Stating that Armenian partizans massacred 8,489 Turkish people, Tasyurek said that burial procedures took 52 hours after liberation of the city. Stating that the population of the city shrinked from 80,000 to 8,000 because of massacres and diseases, Tasyurek said, "The population of Erzurum was around 8,000 just after it was liberated from Armenian occupation.
