French Armenians Urge 'Sénat' to Pass Law Penalizing Denial of Genocide

E-mail Print PDF
About 300 members of Armenian diaspora in France hold a protest demonstration near Senate of France to urge the Senate to pass the resolution that penalizes denial of so called Armenian genocide. The law was passed by French parliament in 2006.
French Parliament recognized so-called Armenian genocide in 2001 and the French National Assembly adopted a resolution proposing a penalty for anyone who denies Armenian allegations regarding to 1915 incidents.
The law that penalizes denial of Armenian genocide has been put into cold storage as it caused strain in the relations between Turkey and France. It is reported that Speaker of French Senate had promised Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that resolution will not be brought on the agenda of the Senate during the visit of Erdogan to France. Despite all these developments, Armenian diaspora in France urge Senate to legitimize the law draft.
