The foreign ministers of the OIC countries recognized Khojaly massacre as a crime against humanity.
Today, at the closing meeting plenary sitting of the 37th session of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Conference (FMC), held in Dushanbe, a resolution was adopted on the activity of the OIC Youth Forum.
By a separate point, the resolution calls on the OIC member-states, as well as OIC institutions to take an active part in the activity of the campaign of Justice for Khojaly and recognition of the Khojaly massacre as a crime against humanity both on international and national levels.
The statement came from the Secretary General of the OIC Youth Forum, Ambassador Elshad Iskenderov, who heads the delegation of the Forum, participating in a session of the OIC Foreign Ministers in Dushanbe. The paper praised the work of the Forum, in particular on the implementation of the program 'The humanitarian disasters in the OIC countries in the 20th century', conducted jointly with ISESCO.
The resolution also urges member-countries to support the international campaign "Justice for Khojaly initiated by Leyla Aliyeva, General Coordinator of the OIC youth forum on intercultural dialogue, to provide the international community with the truthful and objective information about the Khojaly massacre.
'It was the first resolution, in which foreign ministers of 57 countries that are part of the second bigger international organization after UN uniquely expressed their views on the nature of of the Khojaly tragedy, using the term "crime against humanity" to define it. This term has both a political and international legal components and covers a number of serious violations of international humanitarian law, including genocide', said E. Iskenderov, commenting on the document in Dushanbe.
The international campaign "Justice for Khojaly” was launched in 2009 and today its activities cover more than 35 countries of the OIC as well as Europe and Latin America.
