The Executive Director of LINKS, Dennis Sammut gave a lecture over the foreign policy of Azerbaijan at a university in London. The head of England based NGO, LINKS said that he travels Azerbaijan so often to closely follow the developments in the country.
Stating that Azerbaijan is focused on Nagorno-Karabakh problem more than 10 years before, Sammut said that Karabakh problem is a top foreign policy priority for Azerbaijan. Underscoring that Azerbaijani government will never agree on independence of Karabakh, Links member said that a significant amount of people in Azerbaijan is towards settlement of the conflict by force. Commenting on the ongoing negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh, Sammut said, "Although Azerbaijan believes that mediators are not objective, they continue peace negotiations.
"The process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia created a shock in Azerbaijan. They initiated a counter-attack and they came to the point of cutting off the relations with Turkey. They even made a threat of recognizing Cyprus as a whole. But then Turkey took steps backward," he claimed.
