Leading political scientists of Azerbaijan held a press conference in Moscow to discuss Nagorno-Karabakh problem and the process of normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia.
Director of Strategic Researchs Institute Elhan Nuriyev, Azerbaijani MP and Democratic Reforms Party Leader Asim Mollazade and Political Scientist Rasim Musabekov participated in the conference which is held at Russian public news agency RIA Novosti. Stressing that opening of Turkey-Armenia border is not possible unless Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is resolved, Elhan Nuriyev said, "Despite the pressure of USA, Russia and EU, Turkey made a very right decision and announced that borders with Armenia will not be opened before resettlement of Karabakh problem. Stating that Turkey increases its influence day by day and super powers acknowledged Turkey's new role, Nuriyev said that the strategical cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan is towards the interests of all the countries in the region. Underscoring that Azerbaijan participates in all of the regional projects as it is the strongest economy in the South Caucasus, Nuriyev said that Armenia isolates itself from the rest of the world by staying out of the international projects. "We are towards the peaceful resettlement of Nagorno-Karabakh problem but we cannot keep being patient for so long. Because of that, we continue process of armament. If Armenia does not withdraw from our lands peacefully, we will have to establish our territorial integrity by force," said he.
Azerbaijani MP and Democratic Reforms Party Leader Asim Mollazade said that Armenia does not give Karabakh anything other than false hopes. Stating that Azerbaijani refugees will return to their homes after the occupation ends, Mollazade said, "We will make Nagorno-Karabakh a free trade zone. It will be towards the interests of Armenians of Karabakh and Armenia the most if the occupation ends. Because Azerbaijan does not want to have a hungry and agressor neighbour. We want our neighbour to be rich."
Stating that Azerbaijan is 6 times stronger than Armenia economically, political scientist Rasim Musabekov claimed that Armenia does not have enough power to compete with Azerbaijani military. Stating that ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh is continously being violated, Musabekov said, "The problem should be solved before the armed conflicts in the region turn into close combat."
