EU is ready to assist in building infrastructure at the border between Armenia and Turkey, said Charge d'Affaires of the European Commission delegation to Armenia, Onno Simons.
"For its part the EU is ready to assist in everything related to the creation of infrastructure at the border between Armenia and Turkey, the customs settlement, capacity development, development of contacts between people", said Simon at the international conference "Caucasus - 2009" in Yerevan on Friday.
According to him, the EU is closely watching the dynamics of the negotiation process on the Armenian-Turkish relations, initially welcoming the signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocols.
According to Simons, the EU remains hopeful that the Armenian-Turkish protocols will be ratified and implemented without delay.
According to the report of News-Armenia, Symons said, "The European Union will continue its efforts to establish both formal and informal ties between Armenia and Turkey. At that same time, it would not be very wise to ignore the impact that the parties have on each other."
Simons also noted that normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey will have a very serious impact on the stability and security in the region, contributing to the implementation of the provisions of EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative.
"These processes influence each other, and they are developing, each of which operates according to its logic. But it is also necessary to ensure the dynamics of these processes ", he assured.
