Armenian diaspora in United States has initiated a campaign against nomination of Matthew Bryza to the American Embassy in United States. Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) called U.S. Senate to "scrutinize Bryza’s diplomatic record" before approving nomination of American diplomat as the Ambassador to Azerbaijan. Issuing a statement in its web site, ANCA stressed the "incompatibility" of the nomination of Matthew Bryza. It should be noted that statement of ANCA did not mention Bryza's Turkish descent wife Zeyno Baran.
U.S. President Barack Obama's decision to appoint Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Bryza for the post of US Ambassador to Azerbaijan caused the reaction of Armenian organizations in United States.
Aram Hamparian, Director of ANCA, said, "We expect Foreign Relations Committee of U.S. Senate and the members of Senate to carefully scrutinize Bryza's record and the old statements during the process of confirmation." ANCA stressed that Bryza's diplomatic record should be carefully scrutinized for the sake of the interests of United States in Caucasus and Southeastern Europe. ANCA recalled that U.S. Diplomat had served as the American co-chair of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group which mediates between Azerbaijan and Armenia for the peaceful resettlement of Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
Recalling that Bryza had an important role in the withdrawal of John Evans, former U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, because of supporting Armenian lobby and genocide allegations, ANCA claimed that Evans was fired over his "truthful" statements recognizing so called Armenian genocide, Turkey and Azerbaijan's "blockade" of Armenia and the independence of "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic". ANCA called its members to contact U.S. Senators over these issues.
