Namik Tan, Turkey's Ambassador to Washington met with Turkish students studying at Harvard University. Adressing to the Turkish students, Tan stated that the city of Boston is the capital of science and said, "Students are our future.
Soon you will be appointed to very important duties and you will be the ones who serve the country. There is a new process of reconstruction in Turkey and the image of the country changes in every field. As the Republic of Turkey, we are ready to assist you."
According to the report of Haber7, when he is asked about so called Armenian genocide, Tan said, "Armenian issue can be solved easier than it is thought. Armenian citizens do not know Turkish people. We are the children of the same geography. They (Armenians) came to this continent before us and their population here is bigger than ours. First and second generations know Turkish people but the new generations know Turks only from the tales they were told. We are not sufficiently introducing ourselves."
Stressing that Turkish and Armenian people have many things in common, Tan said, "Turkish and Armenian people are similar about several features. We should stress the similarities between two peoples and we should introduce ourselves clearly. While we are doing this, we should also carefully learn the historical thruths and attach more importance to teaching this issue in schools. We should prevent them to fear from Turkish people."
