Meeting with the administrators of Igdir's Organization for Fighting Against Baseless Armenian Allegations (ASIMDER), Ziyat Ali Deliktas, Mayor of Karakoyunlu district of Igdir, criticized the calls of Chairman of Van's Chamber of Industry and Commerce towards opening of borders with Armenia.
Mayor Ziyat Ali Deliktas expressed their disturbance over the calls of Van's Chamber of Industry and Commerce toward opening of borders with Armenia and said, "Alican border check-point is within the borders of our district and opening of borders with Armenia would be most beneficial for our district. On the other hand, we are towards keeping national interests higher than the economical interests."
"We are not a revengeful nation. Armenians consider Igdir and even Erzurum as their territory and they do not recognize our borders. Their constitution mentions Mount Agri as Armenian territory. Other than that, Armenian diaspora continues its efforts against Turkey. Unless Armenia withdraws armed troops from Azerbaijan's occupied territory and unless they give up the baseless claims regarding to 1915 incidents, we are against of opening Alican border check-point to Armenia.
Stating that he does not believe that Armenia will contribute the economy of the region, Deliktas said, "We cannot ignore our brothers who were massacred by Armenians in 1992 just because we want to sell our buscuits to Armenians. Chairman of Van's Chamber of Industry and Commerce Mr. Kandasoglu would reconsider making such statements if he were living in Igdir. People of Igdir are very sensible on this issue. We are strictly against opening of borders before resettlement of Nagorno-Karabakh problem."
Director of Organization for Fighting Against Baseless Armenian Allegations (ASIMDER) Goksel Gulbey also criticized Chairman of Van's Chamber of Industry and Commerce. "The statements are unfortunate. Opening of borders with Armenia is out of question as long as Armenia does not withdraw from the territory of fraternal country Azerbaijan," said he.
