Turkish Genocide Monument To Be Erected In Erzurum

Associate Professor Erol Kurkcuoglu, Director of Turkish-Armenian relations Research Center at Ataturk University, stated that a monument of Turkish Genocide will be erected at the city center of Erzurum for the memory of Turkish people that are massacred by Armenian gangs. Kurkcuoglu said that they aim to finish the project until October 29.

25th World University Winter Games will be held in Erzurum. Before the international organization that will be held in 2011, it is announced that a Turkish Genocide monument will be erected at the city center. Speaking to Cihan news agency,  Director of Turkish-Armenian relations Research Center at Ataturk University, Associate Professor Erol Kurkcuoglu said that a Turkish Genocide monument and a city library will be opened at the city center before the organization begins. Reminding that about 50,000 people were massacred by Armenians between 1916 and 1919 in Erzurum, Kurkcuoglu said," A monument of Turkish Genocide will be erected for the memory of thousands of victims. Other than that, a library that exhibits the documents about atrocity of Armenians in the region will also be opened."

Stating that library and the monument will be finished till October 29, Kurkcuoglu said, "Library will include works from Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives, Military Archives of Presidency of General Stuff and books of several Turkish and foreigner scientists. The library will serve as a research center which will respond Armenian genocide allegations with documents. The library will also include evidences and photos about atrocity of Armenians in Erzurum."
