Photograph artist and writer Yildirim Ozturkkan claimed that Turkish traces in Ani Ruins is being ignored unlike Armenian ones. "Historical artifacts belonging to Armenian cultural heritage is being carefully preserved while Turkish historical artifacts are let alone".
Stating that Manuchahr Mosque, the first Turkish mosque in Anatolia, is in danger, Ozturkkan said, "They are aiming to close the roof of the mosque with metal sheet and there is already a metal constraction on the minaret. Because the mosque has the longest minaret in the region, it may attract lightning. The building is in danger". Refering to the statements of Archaeology and History Department Lecturers from Middle East Technical University (METU), Ozturkkan said, "The mosque deserves to be kept in a glass cage. For Turkish history, it is as worthy as the Orkhon Monuments"
"On the other hand, they are covering the roof of the building with metal sheets and installing a metal construction over the minaret. This is the massacre of history. Because it is the highest building in Ani Ruins, the building is under lightning risk. With the first lightning, Manuchahr Mosque will collapse," said he.
Stressing that double standarts being applied between Turkish and Armenian historical artifacts in the region, Ozturkkan said, "While Armenian churchs are being restorated in accordance with its original structure, Manuchahr Mosque is covered with metal sheets. I call officials to urgently take measures against this issue."
