The left faction of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany sent a questionnaire to the Federal Government concerning the assessment of the legitimacy of the so-called “parliamentary elections” held in the occupied Azerbaijani territories on May 23, Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA.

According to the press release issued by the Azerbaijani embassy in Germany, Deputy Foreign Minister Werner Hoyer gave an official reply to the questionnaire. The reply says that the Federal Government recognizes neither the regime existing in Nagorno Karabakh, nor the elections conducted by it. The Federal Government will not contact with the representatives of the regime in Nagorno Karabakh or the so-called parliament.

The resolution “Strengthening security, stability and democracy in the South Caucasus” was adopted in the Bundestag on May 14, 2009. With this resolution the Bundestag recognized the territorial integrity of all three countries of the South Caucasus and underlined the inadmissibility of changing the borders without the sovereignty of the states and permission of the states. The Bundestag called on the German government to mobilize efforts so that the UN resolutions, the decisions and resolutions of the Council of Europe and OSCE are fulfilled by all sides. The Bundestag also called on the government to increase activeness for solving the problems of refugees, including their returning within the framework of the efforts towards resolving the conflicts in the South Caucasus.
