A Dashnak party official in Israel stated that Israel uses the issue of so called Armenian genocide as a tool of pressure against Turkey.
Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun's representative in Israel, Georgette Avagian said that Israel brings the issue of so called Armenian genocide on the agenda whenever it needs to exert pressure on Turkey. "As the parties reconcile, Israel will forget about Armenian tragedy. Politicians who do not want to conflict with Turkey, will remove the issue from the agenda until the next crisis between two countries," said Avagian.
According to the report of Armenia based News.am news portal, Avagian stressed that Israel uses "genocide" issue as a "bat" against Turkey. "Israel was discussing recognizing 'Armenian genocide' in 1982. Turkey pressed Israeli Foreign Minister Yitzhak Shamir and ended discussions. A documentary about 1915 incidents was about to be broadcasted in 1989. Turkish Foreign Ministry contacted Israeli Minister Moshe Arens and the broadcast of the documentary was prevented. There are several similar examples," said Avagian.
"Israeli people suffered a similar disaster. Understanding and supporting Armenian people is a duty for each Jew," said Avagian.
