Turkish-Azeri Natural Gas Deal A Setback For Turkish-Armenian Relations

E-mail Print PDF

Armenian analyst Artak Shakarian suggests that in return for getting low cost natural gas from Azerbaijan Ankara has frustrated the process of normalising relations with Yerevan. This deal will also give the NABUCCO project more viability. The NABUCCO pipeline will bypass Russia and presumably Armenia as well.

Turkey will benefit from this as a transit country, thinks Shakarian. However Azerbaijan cannot satisfy NABUCCO alone and wants to get Turkmenistan involved.
