Russian Troops will be deployed in Karabakh, Turkish troops in Nakhichevan: Expert

The adoption of the new Azerbaijani military doctrine is related to the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh issue, namely to the perspectives of deploying international peacekeeping forces in the conflict zone, leader of Military Journalists organization and military expert Uzeir Jafarov told Azerbaijani news website Zerkalo. In his words Turkish or Russian troops may be deployed in the regions adjacent to Nagorno Karabakh.

"But judging from the frequency of Azerbaijani Defense Minister's visits to Russia it can be said that in all probability Russian troops will be deployed in those territories," said Jafarov, adding that he did not rule out deployment of Turkish troops in Nakhichevan.

"It is not excluded that according the doctrine Turkish troops be deployed in Nakhichevan in the framework of the Kars Treaty that envisages intervention of Turkish military forces in case the security of that region is posed to threat."

At the same time Jafarov said that developments in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement may occur already in August.

"We see activity in that process. Azerbaijan's Defense Minister has already visited Moscow twice this year. And that boils down to the fact that we are at the top of the settlement of the Karabakh conflict," said Jafarov.
