Dashnaks Call Armenia To Withdraw Signature From Protocols

Although everything is possible in politics, the Armenian-Turkish process is unlikely to intensify, Giro Manoyan, one of the leaders of Dashnaktsutyun party of Armenia said. “A number of factors account for this. The first of them is the domestic political situation in Turkey. With Turkey’s foreign policy considered, I do not think progress can be expected in Armenian-Turkish relations in the near future,” Manoyan said.

In the present situation Armenia should withdraw its signature from the Armenian-Turkish protocols as soon as possible thereby putting an end to its dependence. “Armenia gave Turkey not only the protocols, it lost a chance to act as counterbalance in the Armenian-Turkish process. It is not only of benefit to Turkey, but it is only to Armenia’s detriment,” Manoyan said. As to whether the Armenian authorities will listen to his advice, he said that “judging from Serzh Sargsyan’s latest trip, one gets the impression the authorities prefer to walk out of the process. Let us recall the trip when the President stated that ‘for the present, Armenia has decided to suspend the process’ This ‘for the present’ is a most indefinite period, which, however, is a period of time. I think the President needs to be prompted all this time that the longer is this ‘for the present’ the longer Armenia will have Turkey take advantage of this uncertainty.”
