Armenians commit arson in the frontline area, and increase the water level in the River Terter, an Azerbaijani minister has said.
Azerbaiian's minister of ecology and natural resources, Huseyngulu Bagirov, made the accusation at the 8th Baku international ombudsmen's conference on "Human rights and the Environment: Legal and Ethical Aspects of Climate Change".
He said that in spring when water levels in rivers were high, the Armenians deliberately released water from the Sarsang reservoir in Karabakh into the Terter River, causing the river to flood.Fires started near the contact line spread to crops on the Azerbaijani side, the minister said.
Industrial waste is discharged into the Kur and Araz rivers, raising the heavy metals content in the water five- or tenfold.
