1397 Azerbaijanis Released From Armenian Captivity

1397 people have been released from Armenian captivity during the conflict.

Eldar Mahmudov, Azerbaijani national security minister, chairman of the State Commission on War Prisoners, Hostages and Missing Persons has received head of the Azerbaijani representation of the International Committee of the Red Cross Tun Vandenhuv ending his mission and newly appointed head Sherin Pollini.

According to the Center for Public Relations of the ministry, during the meeting Eldar Mahmudov stressed the positive constructiveness of Tun Vandenhuv's activities in Azerbaijan and said that this cooperation has yielded definite results. Mahmudov congratulated Sherin Pollini on the new appointment and expressed confidence that mutual cooperation will continue to develop.  

Committee chairman said the cooperation with the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross was effective. Mahmudov said that the priority of the Commission is to determine the fate of persons missing as a result of Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan. He said that currently the State Commission has registered 4,090 missing citizens; 1397 people have been released from Armenian captivity during the conflict; as a result of investigative activities, fate of 977 people have been identified over the past five years; during the same period, 19 Azerbaijanis were released from captivity, and 20 Armenians have been handed over to the opposite side.

The sides stressed important of further fruitful cooperation.
