Armenia Not To Receive Military Or Political Support From CSTO

The statements of the director of the CSTO Armenian office Nver Torosyan spread by Armenian mass media are absurd.

An Azerbaijani political scientist has commented on the statement by the so-called director of the CSTO office in Armenia Nver Torosyan who said if Azerbaijan takes definite military steps, under the fourth paragraph of the CSTO charter, the organization member-states have to provide military assistance to Armenia.

“The statements of the director of the CSTO Armenian office Nver Torosyan spread by Armenian mass media are absurd”, political scientist Rasim Musabeyov said.

“I wonder what he means when he says ‘CSTO’. It is absurd of him to hope that Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will support Armenia against Azerbaijan”, said the political scientist.

According to the analyst, Armenia will not get either military or political assistance from the CSTO member-states.

“None of the states except for Russia supported Armenia while voting on the resolution on the state in the occupied Azerbaijani lands at the UN General Assembly, while Uzbekistan supported Azerbaijan. Thus, Armenia will get no support from CSTO. He may have hinted at Russia, but in this case Moscow says officially that it recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan”, said the analyst.

Musabeyov said if the conflict goes beyond Karabakh and moves to Armenia, in this case Armenians will have a right to put a question about ally support.

“In the case when Armenia is an occupant of an alien territory, it is absurd to hope for the ‘automatic’ support of CSTO or Russia. Russia will take the decision independently. And it will likely be a sort of an appeal to stop bloodshed. But even CSTO will not ‘bomb’ Azerbaijan for Armenia”, said he.
