Chairman of the Executive Board of Van's Chamber of Industry and Commerce (VATSO) commented on the relations between Turkey and Armenia in a conference in Berlin, Germany. Stating that Turkish and Armenian peoples lived together in peace for centuries in Anatolia, Kandasoglu said, "But problems occured with the begining of nationalist trends among the ethnicities in the Ottoman Empire. These trends affected all ethnicities including Turks, Armenians, Macedonians, Albanians and Greeks and the consequences were irrecoverable. The World still couldn't overcome the trend of nationalism since 100 years."

Speaking at the panel entitled "Turkish-Armenian Relations, Kandasoglu said, "People are struggling to overcome the these traumas with the new global mechanisms, especially through economical openings. The new era has roles for every party. The new role is the global economical and cultural cooperation model. Turks and Armenians should make steps in accordance with these roles by overcoming the influence of the past. There is pubic support and common ground for that. If we can use this appropriate climate, we may create a model for the rest of the World."

Stating that the city of Van struggles to contribute the process, Kandasoglu said, "As the Van's Chamber of Industry and Commerce (VATSO), we made a very first step and we made a visit to Armenia. The process of dialogue we have launched should be understood well. Our counterparts, the delegation from Yerevan's Chamber of Industry and Commerce, welcomed the initiative. We aim to strengthen the dialogue and continue the process successfully."
