Speaking to Turkish NTV Television, Omer Taspinar, Turkey Director of Brookings Institute commented on the attitude of U.S. administration following the strain in Turkish-American relations regarding to the Israel and Iran issues. Stating that anti-Turkish policies may develop in US Congress, Taspinar called for attention on the activities of Armenian lobby and reactions of American politicians against Turkey's foreign policy.

"American government does not intend to penalize Turkey. They wish to keep ties with Turkey. They do not consider on ways to punish Turkey. Justice and Development Party made some demands regarding to Israel. In my opinion, the main agenda is participation of more observers to the Gaza Flotilla Enquiry Committe," said he.

Stating that Israel does not rely on United Nations, Taspinar said, "United States is trapped between Turkey's demands and Israel's resistance. Besides US administration's, certain decisions will be brought on the agenda of the US Congress. There are efforts for bringing 'Armenian genocide' resolution on the Congress agenda. That might cause some headache in the relations. There is also requirement for approval of U.S. Congress to sell arms to Turkey. That may turn into another source of strain".

"United States seeks for some balance. As US does not want to see Turkey shifting to Arabian world, American officials will continue to state that there is no crisis between two countries. On the other hand the situation is different with the American media. There are neo-conservatives and anti-AK Party circles in the Israeli lobby. And Armenian lobby was already seeking for something like this to happen. Armenian lobby will do utmost to pass 'Armenian genocide' resolution before the elections in November," said Taspinar.
