Armenian leader criticizes "blockade"

President Serzh Sargsyan has said that the Armenian economy is developing even though borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan are closed.

"Armenia continues to live under an illegal blockade by Azerbaijan and Turkey, despite the cease-fire reached as a result of the heroic struggle of the Karabakh people," Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said in St Petersburg.

He was speaking at a reception at the Tauride Palace to mark the 300th anniversary of the Armenian community.

"Thanks to the diligence of our people and the assistance of our friends and allies, we have managed to stabilize the Armenian economy and ensure economic growth," Sargsyan said, according to the Armenian presidential press service.

The president said that "the is continuing and our children continue to live and grow up amidst dividing lines and mine fields in the 21st century."
