Justice and Development Party Vice President Omer Celik reacted to the efforts for bringing so called Armenian genocide resolution on the agenda of US Congress. "Friends do not blackmail each other," Celik said.
Making a visit to Washington to express Ankara's position after Turkey voted "No" for the sanctions against Iran at United Nations Security Council, Omer Celik, vice chairman of Turkey's Justice and Development Party (AKP) and chairman of Foreign Affairs, reacted to the calls towards bringing Armenian bill on the agenda of the Congress. "Friends do not blackmail each other," Celik said. Stating that there is a propaganda that aims to connect the vote at the UN Security Council and the crisis in the relations between Turkey and Israel, Celik said, "Israel struggles to lay an embargo on Turkish-American relations."
Asked about the statements of U.S. Congressmen regarding to Armenian bill, Celik said, "Turkey should be supported in its righteous position regarding to Israel. On the other hand, if they criticise Turkey over these and if they bring Kurdish and Armenian issues on the agenda as a response, that does not fit into friendship. Friends do not blackmail each other."
