Lecturer at Kazim Karabekir College of Education at Ataturk University, Associate Professor Selahattin Tozlu refuted Armenian allegations regarding to 1915 incidents and said, "Whereever you dig in Erzurum, you would see the traces of the atrocity that Armenians committed here."
As genocide allegations are being brought on the agenda on all occasions, a new mass grave which is recently revealed in the Tepekoy district of Erzurum triggered the debate again. Associate Professor Selahattin Tozlu stated that Erzurum, Bayburt, Kars and Agri are full of the traces of the genocide committed by Armenians. "Erzurum is one of the cities where Armenian atrocity made a deep wound," said he.
Stressing that Erzurum experienced the worst massacres, Tozlu said, "Whereever you dig in Erzurum, you would see the traces of the atrocity that Armenians committed here. The new mass grave that is revealed last week is just one of them." Stating that Turks never committed a genocide, Tozlu said, "Killing people is forbidden in our religion. Therefore, accusing our nation of committing massacres is nothing but stupid talk."
"The atrocities in and around the city of Erzurum is confirmed by several foreigner sources including Armenians. Those sources detail the massacres committed by Armenians. The recent excavation work was held in accordance with the information gathered from those sources," said Tozlu. Stressing that Ottomans tried to displace Armenian minority in the region due to security reasons, Tozlu said, "They did not commit a genocide against Armenians or any other nation."
Associate Professor Tozlu said, "Allegations of genocide are being carried on the agenda through the parliamentary decisions in Europe. They do not want Turkey to grow stronger and they are creating problems to prevent Turkey's membership to EU. Ottoman Empire had the control of World when the West was powerless. They are afraid that it might happen again. The allegations of genocide are based on the plans to prevent Turkey to develop. Otherwise, they also know that it was Armenians who committed a genocide against Turkish people."
