Heritage Party of Armenia Calls For a Flotilla to Break Turkish "Blockade"

E-mail Print PDF

A proposal "to break Turkish blockade" is on the agenda of Armenia. Inspired by the aid ships to Gaza which aimed to break Israeli blockade against Palestine, members of the Heritage Party in Armenia, suggested for aid flotillas to be sent to Armenia from European countries to break "Turkish isolation".

Stating that "the peace convoy" may travel through Athens-Istanbul-Kars-Gyumri route to deliver humanitarian aid to Armenia, members of Armenian oppositionist party claimed that cargos therefore can pass through the closed Turkish-Armenian border. According to the report of NTV, Members of the Heritage Party said, "Ankara calls for removal of the blockade against the people of Palestine. On the other hand, they reject to end isolation of Armenia since 1993. Because of that, we are aiming to suggest American and international organizations to support the proposal." Armenian oppositionists stated that they hope Ankara will not create any obstacle for the humanitarian aid convoy to pass.

Turkey closed its borders to Armenia in 1993 in solidarity with Azerbaijan to protest Armenian occupation in the lands of fraternal country Azerbaijan.
