One of the longest serving members of U.S. Senate, Senator Robert Byrd has passed away. Byrd, who was known as "Turcophile" was one of the biggest supporters of Turkish-American friendship and cooperation.

Struggling for the development of the relations between Turkey and United States, Byrd spared no efforts to prevent recognition of Armenian allegations in the Senate. Byrd died on Monday at the age of 92. Turkish Foreign Ministry offered condolences to United States over the death issuing a statement related to the death of U.S. Senator.

It is reported that Democrats will not lose the majority in the Senate due to the death of Democrat Senator.
