To The Ones Who Claim That Turks Committed A Genocide Against Armenians...

E-mail Print PDF

I spent second half of the April in Spain. I wanted to see Al-Hambra in Granada and Almeria in the Mediterranean coast. I wanted to see what did the ancestors of Europeans, who accuse Turks of committing a genocide against Armenians, did to the Muslims of Iberian peninsula. Arabs created a marvellous civilization in Spain. Catholic Spain struggled to create a better one but the Spanish artifacts are nothing compared to the work of Arabs. It is impossible to imagine Al-Hambra without seeing it.

But what happened to those Arabs who created such a civilization? Let's leave Arabs aside, what happened to the huge Jewish population of Spain? Muslims, Jews and all other non-Catholics became the victims of a huge massacre in the years when Christopher Columbus was making his way to America. They committed a real genocide in Iberian peninsula.

Spanish sources write that those who were not Catholics were exiled or scattered around Spain. Where did they go in Spain ? Who welcomed those people to their country? No one else but the Ottoman Empire. It is interesting that Western world does not discuss this genocide. They also never talk about the genocide committed against North African Arabian tribes. They are only interested in "Armenian genocide"!

Why the Catholic Europeans or Vatican do not account for the genocide in Iberian peninsula in the 16th century?  Why they did not apologize to Muslims? What about the European values? Maybe we should ask another question; "Why would Europe want Muslims in Europe now, when it did not want them five centuries ago?

Another question is for our intellectuals who claim that Turks committed a genocide against Armenians; If Europeans who chased Muslims away from Iberian peninsula had successfully done the same thing in Anatolia using Armenians, would your ancestors be living in those places where you love now? If they could clean Anatolia from Muslims, today's Turkey would never exist. They tried that in 1920's but they could not.
