Cavusoglu: Armenian Press Misinforms Public

E-mail Print PDF

President of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Mevlut Cavusoglu told Russian Interfax agency in Moscow that Armenian press and politicians misinform public regarding the resettlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Expressing his pleasure over the positive developments in the cooperation between Russia and PACE, Cavusoglu said, "The decision that PACE made in June regarding the situation in Northern Caucasus sets a good example for the cooperation between PACE and Russia. With the decision, PACE condemned terror and evaluated Russia's efforts for structuring region positively."

When an Armenian journalist asked, "You have stated that you are towards changing the format of negotiations in Nagorno-Karabakh problem. Do not you think that this will complicate ressettlement of the problem?," Cavusoglu replied, "First of all, I do not agree with these allegations. I am going to speak frankly now; In my opinion, Armenian press and politicians misinform public within the frames of their own interests. PACE made a decision in 2005 over establishment of a committee regarding resettlement of Nagorno-Karabakh problem. And because Yerevan does not welcome this decision, they are trying to create an atmosphere like i had the initiative for that. But the committee was established in that time. And the Chairman of the committee, Rassel Jhonston passed away. Therefore, I have nothing to do with this issue. My aim is to establish dialogue between Azerbaijani and Armenian delegations in the assembly, just like the dialogue between Russian and Georgian delegations. I stated that committee should take action after these two parties agree on it. Armenian Parliamentarian David Arutyunyan also supported that."
