Two men, Eduard Arakelyan and Andrey Ganin, have been sentenced to three years in prison for defacing an Azerbaijani war memorial in Ukraine.
The men destroyed the memorial complex to soldiers of the 77th division who fought and died in Sevastopol, liberating Crimea from the Nazis.
The head of the Azerbaijani community of Crimea, Rahim Humbatov, said that the prosecutor had asked for four year prison terms for the pair during the trial at Balaklava district court in Sevastopol.
Ethnic Armenian Eduard Arakelyan has apologized to Azerbaijanis and said he is ashamed of what he has done.
