Iskandaryan: No Crucial Breakthrough Should be Expected in Turkish-Armenian relations

E-mail Print PDF

There will be no specific movement in the Turkish-Armenian relations within a year, the director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan said.

According to him, Turkey’s domestic political situation, in particular the parliamentary elections scheduled for the next summer, will not enable Ankara to make certain steps in this direction.

“Certain meetings and negotiations might take place, but no crucial breakthrough should be expected,” Iskandaryan stated.

On July 6-7, Turkish press spread an interview with Kars Governor Ahmet Kara. The Governor stated that the Turkish Foreign Office had ordered him to provide information on the state of Armenian-Turkish border, land communication between the two countries as well as on how much time the infrastructure renovation may take. Kara stressed that if the two sides reach an agreement, the infrastructure will be restored within a month.
