E-mail Print PDF

The Azerbaijani embassy in Syria asked the Iraqi embassy about reports that Armenians from Syria are being resettled in occupied Azerbaijani land.

The Iraqi embassy in Damascus responded that, according to a report by the Syrian office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, 1,223 Iraqi refugees of Armenian ethnic origin were registered with the UNHCR's Damascus office as of 31 March 2010.

The UNHCR says that Iraqi refugees in Syria are placed in the countries of Western and Central Europe and North America. The report provides no information about any operations to settle Iraqi refugees in either Armenia or Azerbaijan, the letter from the Iraqi embassy said.
