Azerbaijan`s parliamentary delegation led by speaker Ogtay Asadov is in Geneva to attend the 3rd World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon addressed the 3rd World Conference of Parliament Speakers in Geneva, Switzerland and wished good luck to conference participants.
Press service of Milli Majlis, Azerbaijani parliament said the UN Secretary General pointed out the importance of cooperation between the parliaments and emphasized main directions of the parliaments’ activity – tackling the global challenges, reaching the international stability and solution to national conflicts, crisis prevention and economic development, as well as disarmament and nuclear security. He said the parliaments should strengthen their activity in reaching these goals and make their contribution. The conference agenda was confirmed after the Ban Ki-moon’s speech.
First report was dedicated to cooperation between the parliaments and UN. South African speaker Max Sisulu reported about the development achieved in the period after the Speakers’ Conference in 2005. Then the speakers started to make their speeches.
Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Ogtay Asadov met with the Armenian speaker Hovik Abrahamyan within the framework of the conference. They exchanged opinions on the solution to Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
Asadov is expected to address the conference on July 21.
