It is really strange that the Armenian society hailed the recent ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the legality of the declaration of Kosovo's independence so much enthusiastically, Director of Caucasus Institute and politologist Alexander Iskandaryan said at a press conference.
In his words the essence of that ruling is that Serbia appealed to ICJ demanding to provide an explanation whether or not the declaration of Kosovo's independence was in line with the international law. The court ruled that it did not run counter the international law, i.e. the court did not recognize the Kosovo's independence but has simply mentioned that it does not run counter the international law. Therefore the enthusiasm with which the Armenians accepted the ruling was not to the point.
"The problems of Kosovo and Nagorno Karabakh are different," said he, adding that Kosovo was backed by dozens of world powers which is not the case with Karabakh. But when it comes to the legal aspect, according to Iskandaryan, these two conflicts have what he called a "fraternal similarity," while in terms of politics they are different.
