Karabakh Conflict Not Frozen - Azerbaijani Minister

E-mail Print PDF

The Nagorno Karabakh conflict is not frozen since people still die on the front, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said.

"Azerbaijan's position is that this conflict is not frozen since there are still victims from both Armenian and Azerbaijani sides", Mammadyarov told reporters in Turkey's Bodrum.

"In this connection it is possible to say that war continues and we should put more efforts to ensure peace and stability in the region", Turkish mass media quote the Azerbaijani minister as saying.

Mammadyarov voiced regret that the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia failed to reach achievements in Almaty on July 16-17 of this year. "Despite there was already the statement of the three in Toronto (the joint statement of the presidents of Russia, US and France on the Karabakh conflict) in Almaty, we expected Armenia to be able to present its position in the more constructive way. We expected Armenia to approve the settlement plan and declare readiness to start work over the preparation of the 'Big agreement' (on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict) after the joint statement of the Russian, US and French presidents. Unfortunately, no such progress was made in Almaty", Mammadyarov said.
