Interview with Georgy Vanyan, chairman of the Caucasus Centre of Peacekeeping Initiatives.
Q: What can you say about the unwillingness of the Armenian side to return to Azerbaijan the body of National Hero Mubariz Ibrahimov, who died at the front?
A: The Armenian-Azerbaijani front-line is an area beyond public control. Events there and within our armies have been a closed book for 22 years now. The so-called “coverage” of events that occur there is just a part of the institution of confrontation. Here, the value of a person, either dead or alive, a casual victim or a hero, is zero, but this person is a weapon and ammunition in the confrontation. In our war this is the only weapon that is used in full.
Q: Why have no human rights organizations in Armenia or the Armenian church condemned the failure to return Mubariz Ibrahimov’s body?
A: Human rights organizations, the church and all other public entities are part of the institution of confrontation, the institution of war and they fulfill functions that do not envisage control or condemnation.
Q: It was said initially that "the body of Warrant Officer Mubariz Ibrahimov is in neither Armenia nor Nagorno-Karabakh" after which Armenian users posted a photograph of Ibrahimov's body on the Odnoklassniki.ru website. How long has the Armenian side been lying and why?
A: Your question and the discussion in the press, any serious discussion of such “cases” in virtual social networks, are proof of the disastrous state of our societies. There is no dialogue except for “talk” in the tabloids. We have a vitally important problem - a war, total war and the top priority today is to continue the search for ways out of this confrontation.
Q: Is it possible to say that these actions by Yerevan show hatred of Azerbaijanis both dead and alive in Armenia?
A: I cannot say that the idleness of official Yerevan on this issue constitutes an action. I would like to repeat that war and the laws of war are incompatible with morality.
