A US court of appeals in Massachusets rejected the lawsuit filed by Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA) in 2005 about insertion of literature denying Armenian genocide allegations into a state school curriculum.
According to the report of Panarmenian.net, US based Armenian lobbying organization Armenian Assembly of America (AAA) evaluated the ruling as “a major defeat” for the deniers of Armenian allegations regarding 1915 incidents.
A lower court dismissed the lawsuit filed by ATAA in December 2009, which was appealed by ATAA same year. Appeals court said yesterday that “Armenian Genocide Guide” is appropriate with curriculum classification and law would not allow “genocide” denial actions that plaintiffs sought.
"The Armenian Assembly appreciates the court's ruling in this matter. It sends a clear message to Turkey and its revisionist allies that history cannot be rewritten to further Ankara's state-sponsored denial campaign," said Assembly Board of Trustees Chairman Hirair Hovnanian, Panarmenian.net reported.
Carolyn Mugar, the Board's President, added, "Given the overwhelming historical and legal evidence documenting the incontestable fact of the Armenian Genocide, this ruling is a victory for all those concerned about genocide education and prevention."
