Russian-Armenian Security Agreement To Be Signed During Medvedev’s Visit To Armenia Next Week

Russia and Armenia are expected to sign a protocol to amend 1995 agreement on Russian military presence in Armenia during the President Medvedev’s visit to Yerevan next week, diplomatic sources told Radio Liberty Russian service.

According to the amendments, Russian military presence in Armenia will be prolonged from 25 to 49 years dated from 1995. 

During its presence in Armenia, the Russian military base will defend Kremlin’s interests in the Armenia’s territory and provide security of Armenia together with the armed forces of this country. 

Russia will assist Armenia in modern and relevant arms supply. 

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will visit Yerevan on August 19. He will attend the informal summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Armenia on August 20-22.
