Rasim Musabeyov has welcomed the Agreement on Strategic Partnership and Mutual Assistance signed by the Azerbaijani and Turkish presidents yesterday.
“I think we can only welcome the signing of the strategic agreement between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Both parties have agreed to sign this important document not from zero: we have great experience of bilateral cooperation in the military sphere," Musabeyov commented to 1news.az.
"I would like to note that the signing of this Azerbaijani-Turkish agreement can be viewed as an indirect response to the intention of Russia and Armenia to sign a protocol introducing amendments to the Russian-Armenian agreement on the Russian military base in Armenia. This is a clear sign that, if military action is resumed in Karabakh, Azerbaijan will not be without the support of an ally. The situation will never be repeated in which one party - Armenia - has the support of an ally, while another - Azerbaijan - does not.
"I think the signing of this Azerbaijani-Turkish agreement was not coordinated beforehand between Turkey and Russia and is Turkey's response to Russia's intention to sign a protocol with Armenia. In fact, before the visit of the Russian president to Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Turkish president has signed a strategic agreement in Baku which introduces new nuances to the geopolitical situation in the region.
"It has been made clear to all regional players and leading superpowers that Azerbaijan will not be alone if war with Armenia resumes. Depending on the developments in the region, Azerbaijani-Turkish strategic relations will grow and develop to meet the need to protect the national interests of both countries.”
