E-mail Print PDF

Former Defense Minister of Armenia Vahan Shirkhanyan expressed conviction at a meeting with reporters that Russia will never sell C-300 systems to Azerbaijan. According to him, allegedly, Azerbaijan will use the systems to protect from US-Iran possible military activities. Shirkhanyan said Russia has always been con those activities and providing NATO disregards Russia’s view and attacks Iran, then why should Russia get interested in protection of Baku, from where NATO will launch attacks on Iran?, he inquired.

“Why should Russia ensure security of one of the military sides, seems illogical,” Shirkhanyan noted and recalled that rumors on purchasing C-300 systems from Russia have existed for years, yet, none of them came real. “The issue was on table for 2-3 years with Iran, then for several years with Cyprus, but nothing. I’m sure the systems will not go to Baku,” he highlighted.

In terms of this, Shirkhanyan signified that Russia is Armenia’s strategic partner, as well as he underscored the signing of new military security deal with Russia.
