Azerbaijan Sends Note To US

Charge d’Affaires in Azerbaijan Adam Sterling was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan on September 24 due to the meetings held by separatist Nagorno Karabakh regime’s so-called parliament leader Ashot Gulyan at the US Congress.

Azerbaijani side submitted a note of protest to the US diplomat and said Azerbaijan deeply regretted for such cases and strongly protested it, Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elkhan Polukhov told APA. Azerbaijan keeps its principal position, said the Azerbaijani officials at the meeting. “Such attempts like some people’s travels from the occupied territories to third countries, and particularly taken the US co-chairmanship into account, organizing such visits to this country causes strong protest and dissatisfaction of the Azerbaijani side. Such visits may overshadow relations between the countries”.

Responding to the note few days later, the US State Department told the Azerbaijani embassy in the United States that Gulyan paid an individual visit as an Armenian citizen and he didn’t hold official meetings during this visit. The US once again stressed that it recognized the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
