Russia’s main challenge in the South Caucasus is to exclude intensification of the Karabakh conflict, Innokentiy Adyasov, member of expert council at State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, said during Armenian-Russian Relations spacebridge.

According to him, in case hostilities resume in the Karabakh conflict zone, Russia, as a CSTO member, will have to interfere somehow. “Russia has many problems itself, thus its main task is not to allow war in the Karabakh conflict zone,” the expert noted.

Armenian political expert Alexander Markarov also stressed that Russia would not manage to rely on any regional country except for Armenia. He underscored that Armenia’s security system depends on its cooperation with Russia that is the main investor in Armenia’s economy ($20 bn).
