E-mail Print PDF

The chief editor of the Van Times daily Aziz Aykac considers his newspaper the only one in the world that is published in 5 languages, he said in an interview with Zaman.

Aziz Aykac, who has 38 years’ experience in journalism, noted that the Van Times was published in Turkish, Kurdish, Farsi, English plus Armenian during the liturgy in Surb Khach. “Thousands of Armenians arrived in Van for religious service and we decided to publish the newspaper in Armenian too. Van residents also hosted Armenian guests in their homes. However, the Armenian Diaspora raised the issue on installing cross and the number of guests has reduced. Overall 40 families hosted Armenians in Van,” Aykac stressed.

The Van Times editor also said that there are many Armenians in Van but they are silent about it. Many Armenians of Diaspora visit Van secretly. Even Armenian MPs paid a secret visit to Van,” he concluded.
