“Russian military base in Armenia is a threat for Georgia’s security”, within the framework of his visit to Armenia Georgian FM Grigol Vashadze said, APA reports citing Armenia today news agency. Armenia has a right to choose a security format for its people, and no one questions it, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze stated at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan today in Yerevan speaking about his previous statement that “the extension of deployment term of the Russian military base in Gyumri and strengthening the base poses threat to Armenia’s independence and sovereignty.”
“I am not going to discuss Armenia’s security issues but Georgia has a sovereign right to make statements on presence of Russian military bases in the South Caucasus,” Minister said. According to Vashadze, “the Russian bases indeed pose threat to Georgia’s sovereignty and independence.”
Speaking about proper statement the Minister thanked Armenian media for following his statements and said that he has not made such a statement on Armenia’s sovereignty and independence.
The minister answered the question on “language and education problem” of Armenians living in Javakheti region: “I do not know what Javakhk is, there is no such place on the Georgian map,” Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said at today’s joint press conference with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian.
Vashadze said that there are 103 Armenian schools in Georgia, they are all equipped with computers, while the teachers had undergone trainings.
Note that, recently, Vashadze told APA that an increase of Russian military bases in the South Caucasus was a big threat for Georgia, Azerbaijan and mostly for Armenia. We add a tape reflecting his words to the news.
