US is concerned over deteriorating situation in Karabakh, hopes to find formula for settlement, which will be acceptable for both sides of conflict.
The statement came from US envoy in OSCE Ian C.Kelly. The meeiting with the diplomat was held thanks to the support of the news office of the US representation in UN (The HUB).
“I have to say that we are very concerned with the increase in the number of incidents along the contact line (in Nagorno Karabakh), with those tragic events which killed people. This is an alarming situation”, the US diplomat said.
He recalled that the OSCE plays a role in resolving the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. International mediators are very active and are constantly present in this region, have strong ties with the political leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan, trying to maintain a dialogue between Yerevan and Baku within the so-called Minsk Group. "The most important thing right now is that the parties continue to talk to each other to provide the diplomatic process", said the American envoy.
Replying to a question about whether it is time to seek new approaches to resolve this conflict, especially in the context of the deterioration of the situation this summer, Ian Kelly said he hoped that new opportunities will provide the next OSCE summit to be held on December 1-2 in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, chairing in OSCE.
"We view these summits as an opportunity to resume high-level dialogue between Yerevan and Baku. We hope that both sides will come to the summit in Astana. We would like to see that both sides have committed themselves to observe certain and clear principles, which will lead to negotiations and settlement. We can invite the parties to agree at least on a "road map" for resolving the conflict. That's what we hope for “, said the US envoy in OSCE.
