The special envoy of the US Department of State for issues of energy in Eurasia has indicated the complexities in resolution of the Karabakh conflict.
The special envoy of the US Department of State has indicated the complexities in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict but still voiced hope for its soonest resolution.
According to the Azerbaijani service of the Voice of America, a forum on 'Changing role of the Caspian in terms of global energy' discussing impact of the Karabakh conflict on energy security, was held at the John Hopkins University with participation of US officials and analysts in Washington on October 13.
Professor of the Haifa University, former chief of the program of Caspian research under the Harvard University Brenda Scheffer said in her speech that the United States does not pay due attention to the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and holds imbalanced policy in the South Caucasus.
In turn, Richard Morningstar, special envoy of the State Department on Energy Issues in Eurasia, did not agree with it.
'I think this is a more complex issue than you have described. First of all, you are 100% mistaken saying we do not pay attention to the Karabakh conflict. We pay a very good attention to this issue. Your works mean that the unsettled Karabakh conflict is the US fault. As if we have a magic power which helps us settle it, but we do not do it', Morningstar said.
Morningstar recalled that in the 1990s the then US state secretary Madeleine Albright took part in negotiations in the same room with Presidents Heydar Aliyev and Robert Kocharyan for 12 hours for them to help remove differences.
'Most specialists deal with this issue in the current administration. But this problem is not easily solved. Nevertheless, I hope this conflict will be settled in the nearest future', he said.
